Use a consistent anatomical reference

Use Figures 1.12–1.17. Focus on standard position, relationships, planes, major cavities, abdominal quadrants, and the purpose of serous membranes. The nine abdominal regions and additional regional labels are reference material here; only the vocabulary below is assessed.

Focus for this topic

  • Use the person’s own left and right and the standard anatomical position.
  • Describe location with directional terms, body planes, cavities, and abdominal quadrants.
  • Explain how serous membranes relate to the organs they surround.

Recommended study time: 40–60 minutes, including the lecture and reading and figures. Objective: AP-M01-01.

Your study sequence

Use Next to watch lecture 01.3. Then read the PHA Learning Guide and OpenStax section 1.6. Work through the readings in order, using the examples to connect each concept to human function. Planning estimates are flexible; work at your own pace.
