Connect structure to function

Anatomy describes the body’s structures. Physiology explains how they work. Begin by connecting the two, then follow how cells, tissues, organs, and systems work together.

Focus for this topic

  • Distinguish an anatomical description from a physiological explanation.
  • Trace the levels of organization from molecules to the whole person.
  • Connect metabolism and other basic life functions to the conditions cells need.

Linked objectives: AP-M01-03 and AP-M01-04. Planning estimate: 35–50 minutes for this topic, including the lecture and reading. Work at your own pace.

Your study sequence

Use Next to watch lecture 01.1. Then read the PHA Learning Guide and OpenStax sections 1.1–1.3. Use the figures to connect a structure with its function. Recognize the major systems and their broad roles; memorizing every organ pictured is not required here.
